Outpatient Programs

A main goal of addiction treatment is achieving sobriety, which involves a conscious rejection of drugs and alcohol. This is no small feat, and every day of sobriety deserves to be celebrated.

But to achieve full recovery, there’s more to it than abstaining from substance use. People in outpatient rehab recovery also need to learn to live sober. That may mean learning new ways of dealing with stress, coping with challenges and communicating with loved ones. They need to discover what activities or endeavors bring a sense of accomplishment and happiness, and forge new identities as sober individuals. Many also need to re-enter the workplace and resume their role in family life.

Bluff Plantation’s outpatient drug and alcohol rehab provides men and women with the treatment and support to break free from the self-destructive cycle of addiction and accomplish these goals.

Step Down or a Starting Point for Care

Bluff Plantation’s outpatient programs are offered through Rivermend Health Centers of Augusta, Georgia. Conveniently located in downtown Augusta, RiverMend Health Centers provides local access to expert delivered behavioral health and addiction treatment in a supportive outpatient setting. Our outpatient programs can either be a step down for individuals who have completed inpatient treatment, or a starting point for care for those whose addiction can be treated without overnight stays.

Patients in our outpatient programs also benefit from the wide range of resources available at our nearby residential treatment center, including top level medical care from board-certified physicians and a wide range of holistic and experiential therapies.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Our partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a highly structured program that helps men and women in recovery develop sober life skills, and learn who they are and who they want to be as sober individuals. This comprehensive, individualized and physician-led intensive outpatient program includes individual counseling, medication management and group and holistic therapies to heal the mind, body and spirit.

In PHP, men and women in recovery:

  • Learn new skills and tools, including ways to cope with frustration, anger, and cravings through counseling and therapy.
  • Receive help with medication management.
  • Identify what motivates them to remain drug and alcohol free.
  • Receive treatment for co-occurring disorders such as depression, bipolar, anxiety or trauma disorders.
  • Establish a healthy eating and sleeping schedule that helps the brain and body to heal from substance use.
  • Receive treatment for other medical conditions, including pain disorders.
  • Address any underlying issues that contributed to the development of the addiction.
  • Develop friendships and a support network of people who are also in recovery.
  • Have opportunities to put new skills into practice in the real world.

Help For Families

We understand how painful and frightening it can be for families when their loved one is struggling with addiction. Through our outpatient rehab, we offer education, support programs and resources to help families understand what addiction does to the brain, work through the emotional distress addiction has caused in their lives, and help rebuild relationships.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

For individuals who have completed inpatient treatment or a Partial Hospitalization Program, the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) offers continued treatment and support to strengthen and affirm recovery, and assist with the transition back into work, school and family life.

IOP is offered through RiverMend Health Centers of Augusta, just a few miles from our residential treatment center. The proximity to Bluff Plantation allows individuals in IOP to stay connected to the clinical staff there and participate in the holistic and experiential therapies we have on-site, including our nationally respected equine therapy program.

Staying connected to the residential treatment center benefits everyone involved in other ways too. Seeing how far the men and women in IOP have come is a source of inspiration for patients currently in residential care. And individuals in IOP appreciate the chance to give back and serve as positive role models for others in earlier stages of recovery.

In IOP, men and women in recovery:

  • Continue to develop new coping skills, ways to recognize and avoid triggers and relapse prevention strategies.
  • Receive treatment for co-occurring disorders such as depression, bipolar, anxiety or trauma disorders.
  • Receive treatment for other medical conditions, including pain disorders.
  • Have opportunities to discover what sober activities are enjoyable and meaningful.
  • Receive support and education about managing dual diagnoses.
  • Have a safe, confidential space to express emotions, share challenges and make plans for the future.
  • Develop a community of sober peers and get connected with sources of community support, such as 12-step programs.

Aftercare for Lifelong Support

Recovery doesn’t end after formal addiction treatment and outpatient rehab is over. Individuals may still have work to do to rebuild their careers, restore their relationships, create a life that’s healthy and fulfilling – and avoid any temptation to return to past unhealthy practices. We’re here to help with that. Our post-rehab aftercare programs provide support in helping individuals recognize triggers, face challenges and continue to take care of themselves.

Monitoring for Continued Success

As a means of continued success, drug testing is a key component of our continuous monitoring program. Studies have shown that drug testing is a deterrent to drug use and has been used successfully with airline pilots and other professionals.

Drug testing for a recovering addict is similar to glucose testing for a diabetic. Once blood sugar levels are under control, a diabetic continues to monitor blood glucose levels to ensure continued success.

At Bluff Plantation, we believe recovery is more than just abstaining from an addiction; it is also about leading a healthy, productive life. It is our goal to assist you in your recovery every step of the way.
